Discovery

The Artist.

DatArtGod, also known as Ohemeng Oware Jr, is a self-taught visual artist hailing from Accra, Ghana. He began his artistic journey as a hobby in 2015 while studying General Science at the Accra Academy. After this, he pursued a degree in Computer Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

As a full-time creative freelancer, he has worked with well-known brands and individuals such as Burberry, New Balance, 3Music Networks, FreeTheYouth, Mr Eazi, Kojo Antwi, Joeboy and many others. Despite his busy schedule, DatArtGod still manages to carve out time to create personal art pieces.

These personal art pieces are what you’ll be seeing today and are a reflection of his journey to find his place in the world. His creative process is heavily influenced by themes of identity, culture, emotion, and spirituality.

His aim is to create art that is both intellectually stimulating and aesthetically pleasing, drawing on his personal experiences and observations of the world around him. To achieve this, he explores different materials and techniques, often experimenting with digital tools to create a layered and multidimensional effect.

In this exhibition, DatArtGod invites you on a thought-provoking journey of self-discovery. By taking a deep dive into themes of identity, purpose, and transformation, he hopes Discovery will inspire you to reflect on your own path of growth and self-understanding.

The Boy, The Myth, The Legend

The Boy, The Myth, The Legend is an animated short film that chronicles the artist’s journey through three distinct phases. In his own words:

“I began my artistic career drawing inspiration from my faith and creating art that expressed my devotion, but as I evolved, I delved into the mysterious and unknown, creating abstract and surreal works that challenged basic understanding. Eventually, my art gained recognition, and I became a legendary figure in the eyes of many.”

In this film, DatArtGod celebrates his evolution as an artist and hopes to inspire others to embrace their creativity and follow their artistic vision, no matter where it takes them.

exhibition set up

The exhibition set-up is a collaboration between production designer JoJo Temmeng and Trybe.

As you enter the space, you’ll be greeted by two open square structures that symbolise a private space opening up to others. This design choice was inspired by the artist’s desire to create a deeply intimate and personal experience, inviting visitors to step inside the private corners of his mind.
