Applications are now open for the fifth cycle of Black Rock Senegal artist residency!

Black Rock Senegal is a multi-disciplinary artist-in-residence program located in Dakar, Senegal, founded by renowned artist Kehinde Wiley in 2019.

Black Rock seeks to support new artistic creation through collaborative exchange and to incite change in the global discourse about Africa.

Rewards

Accomodation in Dakar, Senegal, Studio space and a stipend for artists to use for obtaining materials necessary to their practice while they are in Dakar. And exposure.

Black Rock includes a number of indoor and outdoor spaces that are shared between the main house and the residency quarters.  These areas include the main dining table, the library, the gym, the sauna, the swimming pool, and the interior gardens.

Eligibility

Open to any applicant over the age of 18.

The mediums listed on the application form are: Film Maker, Mixed Media, Painter, Photographer, Sculpture, Sound/Performance/Time-based practices, Textile Artist, and Writer. The number of portfolio works required depends on which medium you select.

If you do not see your medium listed, we recommend selecting the discipline that is most closely aligned to your medium or most closely related to your portfolio work and the proposed project you would be interested in exploring while in residence.
