About this opportunity
The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa and the University of the Western Cape Museum Fellowship Programme is a 12-month intensive fellowship combining academic study and hands-on museum practice. Designed for emerging professionals in contemporary art, curatorship, museology, and heritage studies, the programme integrates postgraduate coursework at UWC with practical placements across departments at Zeitz MOCAA.
Fellows rotate through key museum departments including curatorial, exhibitions, collections management, education, and institutional development, contributing directly to exhibitions, research, and public programming. Alongside this, they complete academic study in historiography, curatorship, and public history, creating a strong link between theory and practice. The programme culminates in a collaborative public project and symposium.

Eligibility
- Citizenship of an African country
- Bachelor’s degree in art, heritage, museum studies, or related humanities field (or equivalent professional experience in exceptional cases)
- 2–3 years of relevant work experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of contemporary African and diaspora art
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- English proficiency required
- Ability to commit full-time for 12 months (Feb 2027–Jan 2028)
- Must obtain student visa independently (travel/visa costs not covered)
