About this opportunity
The Rencontres d’Arles is offering a curatorial research grant worth up to €20,000 to exhibition curators wishing to develop an original project relating to image or photography. The grant runs in two phases: a six-month research phase, for which the curator receives €5,000 in royalties/expenses regardless of the outcome, followed by a production phase (worth up to €15,000) that only goes ahead if the Rencontres d’Arles approves the project for one of its future editions. Winning projects are announced at the end of February 2027, research runs until summer 2027, and the curator presents their findings to a jury between September and mid-October 2027.
Rewards
- €5,000 (royalties/expenses) for the six-month research phase, paid regardless of whether the project is ultimately approved
- Up to €15,000 for production if the project is approved, covering artwork loans, transport, production costs, curator’s invitation, artist accommodation during opening week, insurance and more
- Additional production costs (exhibition design, communications, installation/dismantling, security) covered separately by Rencontres d’Arles if approved
Eligibility
- Open to all exhibition curators (individuals, co-curators or collectives)
- Application materials (project description, artist/works list, budgets, timetable, curator biography) must be submitted as a single PDF (max 10MB), in French or English (ideally both)
- Curator must commit to being present during the festival’s opening week if the project is approved for production
