About this opportunity

The African Poetry Book Fund presents The Glenna Luschei Prize for African Poetry, an annual award celebrating outstanding African poetry written in English or translated into English. Established in 2015 and named after literary philanthropist Glenna Luschei, the prize honors a full-length poetry collection published during the previous calendar year by an African writer. The award seeks to promote African poetry internationally and recognize significant contributions to contemporary African literature. Each year, the competition is judged by a prominent African writer.

Rewards

  • USD $1,000 cash prize
  • International recognition for the winning poetry collection

Eligibility

  • Open to full-length poetry collections (48 pages or more) published in English or translated into English
  • Eligible writers are African by birth, nationality, residency, or parentage
  • Books must have been published in the previous calendar year and submitted in the year following publication
  • Self-published books and books published by the African Poetry Book Fund or its African Poetry Series are not eligible
  • Publishers may submit multiple titles
