About this opportunity
Someone Somewhere Beyond is looking for Ghanaian photographers to apply to their Open Call for a group exhibition celebrating Ghanaian photographer James Barnor’s 95th birthday.
James Barnor’s birthday is an excellent reason to celebrate. His many decades of dedication to capturing the essence of the social and political landscape in Accra and London open a comprehensive conversation on documenting, archiving, and showcasing a unique perspective on Ghanaian life and culture.
The exhibition, which will be displayed across the country, will feature a collection of iconic photographs by James Barnor, highlighting his genius point of view, undeniably ahead of his time. Alongside Barnor’s work, the exhibition will also include one photograph by a young artist from each of the 16 regions of Ghana.

We are inviting photographers from all regions to take their cameras out of the studios and set them around things, living and otherwise. We want ordinary yet stirring images of narrative traction. Photographs captured to seize time, to freeze moments, and to explore the subtleties of a subject matter.
