About this opportunity
The SFFILM Documentary Film Fund supports compelling, innovative feature-length documentaries in post-production. The grant prioritizes strong storytelling, visual creativity, and artistic vision. Each year, 3–4 projects are selected. Films that rely primarily on interview-based formats are not eligible. The program supports filmmakers in advancing both their current project and broader artistic goals.
Rewards
- Grants of $10,000 – $15,000 (occasionally up to $20,000)
- Access to SFFILM Makers artist development program
- Industry support, mentorship, and networking
- Increased exposure and industry recognition (past recipients have been nominated for Academy Awards and won major festival prizes like Sundance)
Eligibility

Must be 18 years or older

Must be in a key creative role (director or producer)

Must NOT be a full-time student or SFFILM employee/board member

Project must be a feature-length documentary (60+ mins)

Film must be within 3 months of beginning post-production by July 2025

Only one submission per project

Projects relying mostly on interviews are not eligible
