About this opportunity

The Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program offers six artists a place to live and work for a year, with a monthly stipend and no strings attached. Artists-in-residence have the opportunity to mount a solo exhibition of their work at the Roswell Museum, and to have an artwork purchased for the permanent collection of the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art. Over the past 50 years, the residency has welcomed more than 270 visual artists.

Well known by visual artists as the “Gift of Time”, the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program was established in 1967 to provide gifted studio-based visual artists with the unique opportunity to concentrate on their work in a supportive, collegial environment for an entire year. This gift of time allows artists to work without distraction in an effort to break new ground and focus on individual goals.

The Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program accepts applications from outside the US and supports the visa process. But can make no guarantees about the success of any visa application.

  • A stipend of $1,100 per month is offered by RAiR to each artist-in-residence.
  • The Fredrick Hammersley Foundation has generously provided an additional stipend of $250 per month for artists’ materials.
  • For families and couples, RAiR provides an additional $100 for partner and each child living with the grantee.

Professional visual artists 21 years of age or older, involved in painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, video, digital media and installation are invited to apply.
