About this opportunity

The Foundwork Artist Prize is seeking outstanding emerging and mid-career artists working across any medium for its annual juried award. The prize recognises artists who demonstrate strong artistic merit, critical engagement with their chosen medium, and a distinctive contribution to contemporary art. Artists from around the world are invited to participate, with selected artists receiving financial support, professional recognition, and opportunities to connect with leading curators, gallerists, and artists through studio visits.

The prize considers artists working across all forms of contemporary art, including painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, video, performance, and other media. Selection is based on the strength of the artist’s practice, artwork, and artist statement.

Winner (Honoree):

$10,000 unrestricted grant to support artistic practice
Remote studio visits with each juror

Shortlisted Artists (3 selected):

$1,000 micro-grant each

Recognition through Foundwork’s platform and communications
Review by a jury of acclaimed curators, gallerists, artists, and art professionals
Opportunity for the winning artist to participate in a Dialogues interview

Eligibility

Open to individual artists aged 18 and above
Artists must work in any media
Artists must not be Foundwork employees, contractors, or their relatives
Artists must be able to participate according to applicable laws and regulations
Artists must maintain a published profile on the Foundwork website throughout the 2026 selection period
The profile must include at least six published artworks and an artist statement
Artists who have previously been an Honoree are not eligible to be selected again
Artists who have previously been shortlisted are not eligible to be selected again for three years after their last selection
Artist duos and collectives are not eligible; the prize recognises individual artists

Artists residing worldwide are eligible except those in the following locations: Argentina; Arizona (US State); Bosnia and Herzegovina; Bulgaria; Cuba; Iran; Kosovo; Latvia; Macedonia; North Korea; Quebec (Canadian Province); Russia; Saudi Arabia; Serbia; Sudan; Syria; and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

However, artists must maintain an active Foundwork membership ($6/month after a 30-day free trial) during the selection period.
