About this opportunity

The Doc Society Climate Story Fund supports independent nonfiction storytelling that helps audiences imagine a more just, climate-resilient future and inspires action toward that vision. The fund backs projects that explore climate themes broadly, including issues such as racial justice, Indigenous knowledge, migration, agriculture, housing, conservation, and technology. Funding is available for documentaries, nonfiction series, radio documentaries, and nonfiction podcasts in late production stages, as well as completed projects seeking support for impact campaigns. The fund is particularly interested in supporting nonfiction short films in this funding cycle.

Eligibility

  • Open to applicants worldwide aged 18 or older
  • Supports:
    • Documentary films (any length)
    • Nonfiction series
    • Radio documentaries
    • Nonfiction podcasts
  • Projects must be in late production, rough cut stage, or completed and seeking impact funding
  • One director or producer must have a proven track record, including at least one previously released and publicly recognised work
  • A producer must be attached to the project at the time of application
  • Projects must have secured support from at least one institutional funder (except where specific short-film criteria apply)
  • Student projects are not eligible
  • Projects must be independently created and maintain editorial and artistic control

Short Film Eligibility:

  • Runtime of 40 minutes or less
  • Open to projects from late development through completion
  • Production grants of up to $40,000 USD
  • Must allocate at least $5,000 USD toward impact activities
  • At least one director or producer must have had a previous film selected for an international film festival
