About this opportunity
The DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program is seeking established international artists in film, literature, and music & sound for its 2028 fellowships in Berlin. It gives artists time and space to focus on their practice without production obligations, and around twenty artists from different cultural backgrounds are invited each year. Fellowships last 12 months in literature and music & sound and 6 months in film, and can start between 1 January and 31 May 2028. The application period opened on 19 October 2026 and closes on 15 December 2026 at 23:59 CET.

- Your spouse or registered partner and children up to 18 are also invited if they live in Berlin for the whole fellowship, with a large enough apartment and their travel costs covered

Eligibility
- Established artists in film, literature, or music & sound who have already developed their own voice and standing
- No upper age limit; an academic background is not required, and doctoral students are eligible
- Not open to emerging artists: those still in school or who have just completed their education are excluded
- German nationals, including dual nationals, cannot apply; those living abroad can apply only if they have lived primarily in the country they apply from for at least six years
- Artists living primarily in Germany cannot apply, whatever their nationality, unless they first registered in Germany no more than 15 months before the deadline (a copy of the registration certificate is needed)
- Collectives: for 2028 there is one collective fellowship, for up to 3 people, in music & sound only; film and literature are individual fellowships
