About this opportunity
Connect & Create is a funding programme supporting the circulation of performing arts and music between Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe. As part of the Africa–Europe Partnerships for Culture programme, funded by the European Union, the initiative aims to strengthen cultural connections through mobility, international collaboration, and exchange between artists and cultural professionals.
The call supports touring projects, performances, and professional events that create opportunities for artistic teams to travel, perform, and build long-term partnerships across Africa and Europe. Projects should demonstrate strong artistic vision, contextual relevance, sustainability, inclusion, and support for emerging creative scenes.
Projects must take place between February and December 2027.
Rewards
- Grant funding between €15,000 and €39,500 per selected project
- Maximum overall programme budget: €445,000
- Funding can support:
- International, national, and local travel costs
- Visa and insurance expenses
- Accommodation and daily allowances
- Transportation of technical and stage equipment
- Grant covers up to 70% of the total project budget; applicants must provide at least 30% co-financing (cash and/or in-kind contributions)
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include:
- Performing arts companies
- Musical ensembles
- Africa-based collectives
- Production agencies
- Artist development organisations
- Artist support organisations
- Record labels
- Performance venues and cultural spaces
- Festivals, professional markets, trade fairs, and networking events
Applicant organisations must:
- Be legally established in one of the 47 eligible Sub-Saharan African countries or one of the 27 EU member states
- Have been legally registered for at least two years
- Provide proof of registration
- Hold a bank account capable of receiving international transfers
- Demonstrate significant experience in performing arts and/or music
Eligible disciplines include:
- Theatre
- Dance
- Performance
- Puppetry
- Circus arts
- Street arts
- Music
Supported project formats:
Touring projects:
- Africa: Minimum of five confirmed performances across at least three different countries (excluding the artist/company’s country of residence)
- Europe: Minimum of three confirmed performances in one or more European countries
Programming within major events:
- Festivals or events featuring at least three artistic teams from three different African countries
