About this opportunity

The Camargo Fellowship is looking to support established and mid-career artists, scholars, and thinkers developing research-based projects across the arts and humanities. The fellowship provides selected applicants with time, space, and resources to focus on research, experimentation, and creative development within an interdisciplinary community. Applicants are invited to propose projects that explore new ideas, develop creative work, or advance research in their field, with opportunities to exchange with other fellows and connect with professionals in the region.

Rewards

  • 10-week residency at the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, France
  • €3,500 stipend (€350 per week)
  • Basic transportation costs to and from Cassis covered
  • Accommodation in furnished apartments on the Camargo Foundation campus
  • Dedicated workspace and access to facilities including a reference library, music/conference room, artist studio, and composer studio
  • Opportunities for exchange with other fellows and connections with regional professionals
  • Possibility to present work through open studios and resident-led sessions

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be established or mid-career artists, scholars, or thinkers with a strong professional practice
  • Artists must have maintained a professional practice for at least 5 years and demonstrate a track record of exhibitions, performances, publications, grants, awards, or similar achievements
  • Scholars should:
    • Focus on French and Francophone cultures or cross-cultural studies connected to Mediterranean cultures
    • Hold a PhD with postdoctoral experience, or be completing the final stages of a PhD
  • Thinkers may include:
    • Curators
    • Journalists
    • Critics
    • Urban planners
    • Independent scholars
    • Other professionals engaged in critical thought
  • Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Collaborative projects of up to three people are accepted
