About this opportunity

The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2025 is now open for submissions. Free to enter and aimed at independent filmmakers worldwide, the competition seeks bold, original voices across five categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation, Student, and Future Format. Shortlisted filmmakers are flown to Los Angeles for an immersive industry program, including training, workshops, and networking, culminating in the awards night. Eligible films must have been completed between 1 January 2024 and 16 December 2025, with English subtitles provided for non-English dialogue.

Rewards

• Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation winners: $5,000 USD + Sony camera equipment + LA program (flights & accommodation)
• Future Format winner: $2,500 USD + Sony camera equipment + LA program (flights & accommodation)
• Student winner: Sony camera equipment (for filmmaker + institution) + LA program (flights & accommodation)
• Shortlisted filmmakers in Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation, and Student categories: invited to LA program (flights & accommodation)
