About this opportunity

The PORTRAITS – Hellerau Photography Award 2026 invites photographers to submit portrait photography responding to the theme “Escapism.” Organised by HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts, the competition welcomes both single works and photographic series. Selected artists will participate in exhibitions and public programmes including portfolio reviews, artist talks, and workshops centred around the finalist exhibition in Dresden. The award aims to showcase contemporary approaches to portrait photography and create opportunities for international photographers to present their work within a dynamic cultural programme.

Rewards

• 1st Prize: €5,000
• 2nd Prize: €2,000
• 3rd Prize: €1,000
• Participation in exhibitions and public events (portfolio reviews, artist talks, workshops)
• Opportunity for local print production support for selected participants

Eligibility

€50 per project (series up to 20 images)

€30 per single image

50% student discount available (must request by 29/03/26 with proof of student status)
