About this opportunity

Docubox, in partnership with THE WHY Foundation, invites African filmmakers to pitch short documentaries (5–15 minutes) that explore the theme of freedom from a personal or contextual perspective. Whether political, social, economic, environmental, or deeply personal, your interpretation is welcome.

Six selected filmmakers will receive production support and mentorship to bring their stories to life, contributing to a powerful global conversation on what freedom looks like across diverse African contexts.

Eligibility

• Open to filmmakers based anywhere in Africa
• Must submit a clear, compelling short documentary pitch (5–15 minutes)
• Strong access to subjects and story context is essential
• Films must explore the concept of freedom in a meaningful and grounded way
