About this opportunity
The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards celebrate independent filmmakers creating original and innovative work across six categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation, Immersive, Student, and Future Format. The competition is free to enter and open worldwide. Shortlisted filmmakers are invited to Los Angeles for a four-day industry programme featuring workshops, masterclasses, panels, screenings, tours and Q&As. Winners also receive cash prizes and filmmaking equipment.
Rewards
- All shortlisted filmmakers:
- Return flights and accommodation to Los Angeles
- Four-day industry immersion programme featuring workshops, masterclasses, panel discussions, studio tours, screenings and Q&As
- Category winners:
- Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation: $5,000 USD + Sony camera equipment + Meta VR device
- Immersive: $5,000 USD + Meta VR device
- Student: Sony camera equipment + Meta VR device
- Future Format: $2,500 USD + camera equipment + return flights and accommodation to Los Angeles
Eligibility
- Open to the public worldwide, except employees and professionally connected suppliers/agents of the promoter
- Student category is specifically for students enrolled in a higher-education film course, or those who graduated in the same year they enter
- Entries must have been released between 01/01/25 and 15/12/26
- Entries must be completed short films; works-in-progress are not eligible
- You must own the rights to the submitted film
