About this opportunity

Pro Helvetia offers up to three-month residencies at a partner institution in Switzerland for artists and cultural practitioners who are actively contributing to their local cultural scenes. Both individuals and artist duos are eligible.

The residency provides participants with opportunities to develop artistic projects or research ideas, network with the Swiss cultural scene, and deepen exchange between Switzerland and the artist’s home country.

A cultural coach from the local artistic field will facilitate networking and exchange, and applicants may request a workstation and production/material support.

Special support is available for artists with childcare responsibilities, including up to CHF 1,000 per month for childcare or travel expenses of children or carers.

Rewards

Selected artists will receive:

  • Accommodation for the duration of the residency
  • Travel costs to and from Switzerland
  • Daily allowances for living expenses
  • Cultural coaching from a local professional to facilitate networking and exchange
  • Workstation access (on request)
  • Contribution towards production/material costs (on request)
  • Childcare support of up to CHF 1,000 per month, including for travel expenses of children or carers

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be permanent residents of one of the Pro Helvetia liaison office regions (West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa, Arab region, East Asia, South America, South Asia and Vietnam)
  • Be active in their local cultural scene in their respective field
  • Have a comprehensive portfolio and proven professional experience
  • Have a strong professional interest in the chosen Swiss destination, aligned with artistic practice
  • Submit a proposal for a project or research idea that fosters cultural exchange
  • Be proficient in English or a Swiss language for effective communication
