About this opportunity
The British School at Rome (BSR), in partnership with the Bridget Riley Art Foundation, is offering a six-month fully supported residency for an exceptional early- to mid-career artist working in drawing, painting, or sculpture.
Running from September 2026 to March 2027, the residency provides artists with dedicated time, space, and resources to develop their practice within an international community based in the heart of Rome. Residents are immersed in Italy’s artistic and cultural landscape while engaging with BSR’s interdisciplinary programme of research, events, and collaborations.
Rewards
- £1,500 per month grant for six months
- Board and accommodation in a purpose-designed studio at the British School at Rome
- £500 grant towards visa costs and/or shipment of work

Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be an early- to mid-career artist
- Work primarily in drawing, painting, and/or sculpture
- Be a UK or Commonwealth national, or
- Have worked or studied in the UK for at least three years by the deadline
- Not have held a BSR residency in the previous two years
