About this opportunity
Kaboom Animation Festival is now accepting submissions for its 2026 edition (13–22 March). The open call invites animated films, VR projects, games, and hybrid works that feature a substantial amount of animation. Eligible works must have been completed after 1 January 2024 and not previously submitted to Kaboom.
Rewards
- Professional jury awards across categories (Best Short, Best Student Short, Best Documentary, Best VR, Best Dutch Short, etc.)
- Audience awards, including Best Feature, Best Experimental Short, Kids Audience Award, and more
- The Kaboom Nancy Award and Kaboom Jamie Bolio Award
- Winning films may be included in Kaboom’s touring program across the Netherlands (April–December 2026)
- Visibility with international audiences and industry professionals
- Festival pass for selected filmmakers (access to screenings and events
Eligibility
- Open to filmmakers of any age, nationality, and gender
- Films must be completed after 1 January 2024
- Maximum 3 submissions per filmmaker
- Shorts must be under 30 minutes (longer works submitted under “Other”)
- Must contain a substantial amount of animation (hybrid works allowed if animation predominates)
- Categories: Animated Short, Student Short, Commissioned Animation (incl. music videos), Animated Documentary, Animated VR, Animated Feature, Other (30–60 min, installations, games)
- All films with dialogue must include English subtitles
