About this opportunity

The Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest invites poets to submit works up to 250 lines in length, on any theme. The contest has two top prizes: the Tom Howard Prize for a poem in any style or genre, and the Margaret Reid Prize for a traditional or rhymed poem. Poems may be previously published or unpublished, and multiple submissions are allowed.

Rewards

• Tom Howard Prize : $3,500 for a poem in any style or genre
• Margaret Reid Prize: $3,00 for a poem that rhymes or has a traditional style
• Honorable Mentions: 10 awards of $300 each (any style)
• Publication of winning poems
• Duotrope gift certificates for top two winners

Eligibility

• Authors from all countries are eligible to enter the competition except Syria, Iran, North Korea, Crimea, Russia, and Belarus (due to US government restrictions).
• No age restrictions
• Poems must be in English
• Up to 3 poems per entry (may submit multiple entries)
• For the Margaret Reid Prize, entries must use traditional poetic form (e.g., rhyme, meter, haiku, sonnet, etc.)

Entry Fee

$25 per submission of 1 to 3 poems.
