The scholarship supports writers of fiction or non-fiction who were born in Africa or have both parents born in Africa. Its goal is to enable writers to produce the first draft of a full-length book in English.\nWriters will receive a grant of £18,000, paid over 12 months. Non-fiction writers needing additional research time may be considered for an 18-month period. Scholars must submit 10,000 new words monthly and are encouraged to donate 20% of future income from the supported book back to the foundation — as a “debt of honour” to fund future writers.\nShortlisted applicants will be asked to submit a 3,000–4,000 word sample chapter of their proposed work.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRewards\n\n\n\n\n\n\nScholars writing fiction will receive a grant of £18,000, paid monthly over the course of twelve months\nOptional mentorship with an established writer or publisher\n\nEligibility\n\nMust be writing in English\nMust be born in Africa or have two parents born in Africa\nMust submit a published and sold excerpt (2,000–5,000 words)\nProposed work must be a new, full-length book (80,000+ words)\nNot eligible for poetry, plays, scripts, children’s books, or collections\nMust submit 10,000 new words monthly during the scholarship period\n\nEntry Fee\nFree.\nHow to Apply\nApply using the link:  The Miles Morland Foundation Writing Scholarship\nAll questions regarding this award should be sent to scholarships@milesmorlandfoundation.com .\n \n
